I must admit, I’m not usually a fan of a Cabernet Franc on its own. Even though I know it is the grape father of Cabernet Sauvignon, which I adore, it is usually too rough around the edges for my palate. But, the solo 2019 cabernet franc from Cappelli Wine made me rethink… and re-drink.
Perhaps it’s the 4 years that it spent in French oak barrels, or the thick rich plum that awakened my taste buds. I also love the whiff of fresh black cherry on the nose with an array of herbs that compliment the many layers of berry and plum. It feels round and balanced with vanilla, spice, and a hint of licorice at the very end. A little hot but some girls like it hot.
More from my time in this lovely region.
